What is Interventional Radiology?
Interventional Radiology (IR) is a medical specialty in which imaging guidance is used to provide minimally invasive treatments to a wide range of vascular and non-vascular conditions. Interventional radiologists use various imaging techniques (x-rays, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, CT, and MRI) to manipulate precise tools within the body, usually through a tiny needle puncture. These minimally invasive, non-surgical techniques are at the cutting edge of medicine, and are helping improve outcomes for patients with potentially life-threatening conditions.
