Image-Guided Radiation Therapy

With Image-Guided Radiation Therapy, a tumor can be precisely targeted in real time with unprecedented accuracy because of a Beaumont-designed diagnostic CT planning capability (cone beam CT) on the treatment machine (linear accelerator). This technology is particularly useful in treating sites where beam placement is critical to avoid injuring normal tissue and to provide a solution for patients whose internal organs move a great deal from day to day. The treatment is delivered with unprecedented accuracy, and is possible because of a Beaumont-designed diagnostic CT planning capability on the treatment machine.

Image-Guided Radiation Therapy, which is available at a limited number of institutions in the country, allows the radiation treatment beam to be directed precisely to the tumor as visualized in real time on the treatment machine.
