Director of Urology Research
Dr. Zwaans is Director of Urology Research at Beaumont Health and Assistant Professor in Urology at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. In this role, Dr. Zwaans leads the clinical and translational research projects that are ongoing within the Urology department. Dr. Zwaans received her Master in Biological Health Sciences from the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands, obtained her doctorate in Molecular and Cellular Pathology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, after which she joined the Beaumont Urology department. During her training Dr. Zwaans has obtained extensive research experience in the fields of vascular biology, tumor angiogenesis, cancer biology, ageing, benign urology, and cancer survivorship. She has published in top journals including Cell, Urology, and Cancer Cell, and has been successfully funded through the Urology Care Foundation, NIH/NIDDK, and DoD. She has mentored students and trainees from high school level to residents and fellows, and has collaborated with physicians and scientists around the globe. Her passion is to help advance the medical field through her research, with a special interest in cancer survivorship and biomarker development.
