Ambulatory EEG

The ambulatory EEG records brain activity continuously for a 24 to 72-hour period using a small computerized recorder worn around your waist. This procedure takes two appointments (set up time and removal time).

What to Expect

The technologist applies electrodes using a glue-like substance. If you are a patient or a guardian of a patient, you will be asked to complete a diary to record routine physical activities and symptoms during this 24-hour period. Routine activities to be recorded are eating, sleeping, exercise, crying (child), and reading.

You will then return to the Clinical Neurophysiology Department the next day for electrode removal or to be re-prepped for a subsequent day recording.

You can resume routine activities, however you should refrain from strenuous exercise.
