What is the W.E.L.L. Program?
The Women Exercising to Live Longer Program (W.E.L.L.) is a 6-month complimentary exercise program for women who are at risk for developing heart disease. The program consists of aerobic exercise, individual exercise prescription, ongoing meetings with
an exercise physiologist, nutrition classes, various exercise classes, educational lectures, and yoga. Women who are selected to enroll in the program are expected to commit to exercise at least 3 days/week for 6-months at the Beaumont Health and
Wellness Center in Royal Oak, Michigan. The program is free and there are no associated costs.
Do I qualify for the WELL Program?
Women who wish to enroll must have risk factors that increase the likelihood of developing heart disease, but without known heart disease (heart attack, bypass, etc.).
You must have one of the following risk factors to qualify.
- Age 55 years or older
- Hypertension (high blood pressure)
- Elevated cholesterol
- Diabetes or pre-diabetes
- Sedentary lifestyle (not currently participating in regular aerobic exercise)
- History of cigarette smoking
- High stress level
- Family history of heart disease
- Age 55 or older
If you are 55 years of age or older, you automatically qualify.
It is acceptable for women to have multiple risk factors to qualify for the program, however women who use a cane, walker, or wheelchair are not eligible for the program
What is the selection process?
To enroll in the WELL Program, potential participants must attend an informational meeting that are held twice per year, complete a program application, and complete a short interview. Women are then selected from the interview process to begin the program.
If we are not currently accepting new applications, your information will be collected and you will be notified when we have open enrollment.
Hours and Location?
If accepted into the program, you can exercise Monday - Friday during our open gym hours of 6:30am-11:30am and 3:30pm-6:00pm at Beaumont Health & Wellness Center, 4949 Coolidge Highway, Royal Oak, MI. You must exercise at least 3 times per week for
30 minutes each session. Additional class schedules available once accepted.
