Tyner Center for Cardiovascular Interventions

Beaumont’s Suzanne and Herbert Tyner Center for Cardiovascular Interventions, located at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital, is more than a hybrid operating room. It’s a collaborative approach to better patient care.

As a leader in providing the most advanced heart and vascular care, Beaumont’s heart and vascular specialists and surgeons were thinking beyond the traditional hybrid operating room when creating the Tyner Center. They wanted to create a center that combined the latest technological advances in patient care with the ability to teach and educate their colleagues around the world. They wanted to ensure the highest level of patient safety while demonstrating the ability to treat the most complex heart and vascular cases. They wanted to use a collaborative approach to change the way patients are treated for the better.

What is a hybrid operating room?

Hybrid operating rooms allow a team of specialists including surgeons, cardiologists and anesthesiologists to perform combined open, minimally invasive, image guided and catheter-based procedures in the same setting. These interdisciplinary, multifunctional rooms bring the latest technology to the patient with the goal of ensuring the highest level of patient safety while demonstrating the ability to treat the most complex heart and vascular cases. The collaboration allows for innovation in surgical approaches and procedures while providing a platform for training the next generation of medical professionals.

The Tyner Center difference

While many hospitals have hybrid operating rooms, Beaumont’s Tyner Center combines the most advanced technology in patient care with the ability to teach current and future medical professionals in a unique 9,000 square foot facility. Highlights of the center include:

  • a 1,600 square foot hybrid operating suite with the technology and space to accommodate a multidisciplinary team during complex procedures
  • the latest, state-of-the-art equipment including minimally invasive surgical capabilities
  • a learning center and viewing room that allows procedures to be observed in real-time
  • the ability to record and broadcast training courses and procedures worldwide through high-tech audio-visual capabilities

What this means for the patient

The Tyner Center allows heart and vascular specialists at Beaumont to collaborate in performing open heart and vascular surgeries using minimally invasive approaches - all in the same operating suite. This means shorter length of stays with faster recoveries and improved outcomes.

It also means safer and more effective treatment options for the most complex and high-risk patients. The ability to utilize a multidisciplinary treatment approach using the most advanced technology and surgical equipment allows us to treat even the most difficult cases.

Tyner Center Commitment to Academic Excellence

At Beaumont, our experienced cardiologists and surgeons are committed to sharing their knowledge and skills by training other medical professionals in the most innovative, leading edge procedures. To achieve this, the Tyner Center includes a learning facility designed specifically for training physicians and technical staff. Adjacent to the hybrid operating suite, the elevated viewing room provides physicians and trainees a unique opportunity to observe procedures in real-time. In addition to on-site educational programs, the center also has the capability to record and broadcast training courses to locations around the world.
