With the increase in genetic testing and the increase in the number of health concerns with associated genetic causes, people are seeking information about the role of genetics in their health and risk of disease. Beaumont has a genetic counseling program dedicated to addressing these concerns of our patients.
Beaumont’s Adult Genetic Counseling program provides genetic education and support for adults who are seeking information on genetic disorders present in themselves or a family member. Genetic counseling services are available to those that have a known diagnosis or family history of a genetic disorder. Genetic counseling services can help answer questions about the inheritance and natural history of a genetic disease, determine the risk of disease for family members, and provide management/support options concerning a particular genetic disorder.
Assistance in the interpretation and explanation of genetic test results is also provided as well as providing individuals and families with additional resources. The genetic counseling is provided by board-certified genetic specialists with knowledge and expertise in genetics.
