Pediatric neuromuscular disorders are the result of inherited neuropathies or muscular disorders, directly affecting the function of nerves and muscles.

Led by a pediatric neurologist specializing in neuromuscular disorders, the Beaumont Pediatric Neuromuscular Clinic is an established MDA Care Center of Excellence partially supported through an MDA grant.

The clinic offers comprehensive evaluation as well as a wide-range of treatment options from prenatal to young adult age groups. One area of specialty for the clinic is offering targeted drug therapy programs for spinal muscular atrophy and Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Our multi-disciplinary neuromuscular team consists of highly trained and specialized clinicians and includes:

  • adaptive technology specialist
  • physical therapist

The multi-disciplinary pediatric neuromuscular clinic schedules specialized testing and treatments for qualifying patients to include MRI, EMG, muscle biopsy and DEXA bone scan and offers the following programs:

  • individualized drug therapies
  • targeted PT assessments with treatment plan
  • orthotics measurements and fitting
  • genetic testing and counseling
  • dietary counseling
  • specialty referrals for cardiology, physiatry, endocrine, sleep medicine, pulmonology and orthopedics
  • transition program for young adult patients
  • opportunity to participate in neuromuscular research
