Allergies are immune system reactions to something the body senses as
"foreign." Immune deficiencies are conditions that prevent the body's
immune system from working properly. Pediatric allergy and immunology
specialists at Beaumont's Children's provide nationally
recognized care in a leading medical center for the evaluation and
treatment of children with allergic disorders and immune system
deficiencies.
Beaumont Children's specialists diagnose and treat the
entire range of allergic and immune disorders in infants and children.
Typically, children are referred by their pediatrician or primary care
physician for treatment of common allergic problems. However, allergists
throughout the region also refer their patients with complex, rare
immune system problems for evaluation and second opinions. Beaumont's
sophisticated laboratories and access to pediatric specialists in more
than 80 medical and surgical disciplines combine to provide the highest
standard of care.
Our pediatric allergy and immunology specialists evaluate and treat:
- allergic conjunctivitis
- anaphylaxis (a sudden and severe allergic reaction)
- asthma
- bee/insect allergy
- chronic sinusitis
- common Variable Immune Deficiency
- drug allergies
- eczema
- eosinophilic esophagitis
- food allergies

Beaumont Children's offers an array of pediatric allergy and
immunology tests and diagnostic procedures. For example, patients can
be tested for environmental allergies, stinging insect and food
allergies, and contact dermatitis. Blood testing and examination of the
nose and sinuses using a "scope" (rhinoscopy) can be performed if
necessary. Effective treatments include allergy shots (immunotherapy)
and gradually building tolerance (desensitization) to environmental
allergies or aeroallergens. Testing is also available to monitor the
progress of treatment.
