When nurses Rana Allawnha and Nadia Farhat met at work five years ago, they had no idea their shared passion for caring for others, fun and laughter would develop into a lasting friendship.
“Our relationship began as colleagues and over time became more personal as we got to know each other and realized how much we had in common,” Rana said. “Nadia reminds me of my sisters.”
Nadia added, “Rana has had such a positive impact on me. First mentoring me in my role and now part of my work family.”
With a shared passion for bringing fun into teaching and learning at work, they said the holidays provided a great opportunity to tap into their creativity. Over the years, they have enjoyed dressing up in matching costumes for Halloween, such as peanut
butter and jelly, and passing out treats while educating their colleagues on mental health awareness.
Self-described foodies and fitness fanatics, they enjoy sharing meals together (sushi and raw oysters are some of their favorites) and being outside going for walks, swimming and soaking up the sun.
As Rana is Canadian and frequently visits family, they said if it wasn’t for working together at Beaumont Hospital, Dearborn, it would have been unlikely their paths would have crossed.
“Rana understands the day-to-day stresses and has been able to offer great advice,” Nadia said. “We collaborate frequently and make a good team.”
Rana added, “Work would not be the same without Nadia. She is truly a ray of sunshine and is always able to see the positive side in any situation. Solid communication and trust are necessary in any successful work environment, and our friendship
has allowed us to develop both in a meaningful way.”
