Another three Beaumont nurses recognized as runners-up
Two Beaumont Health nurses won top honors at the Oakland University School of Nursing and Board of Visitors' 29th annual Nightingale Awards for Nursing, May 9, at the San Marino Banquet Center in Troy.
Another three Beaumont nurses were recognized as runners-up.
Nightingale Awards celebrate the exemplary contributions of registered nurses. Winners are selected through nominations by peers, supervisors, friends or patients for nursing excellence in one of nine areas of specialty.
Award winners receive a $1,000 cash award, a solid bronze Nightingale statue and a Nightingale pin.
The 2017 Beaumont Nightingale Award winners are:
- Marcelli Jade Contreras, RN, of Brownstown, adult nurse practitioner, Oakwood Accountable Care Organization in Dearborn, in the Advance Practice and Research category.
- Susan Veltigian, RN, of Oxford, wound ostomy continence nurse clinician, Care Management, Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, in the People’s Choice category.
The 2017 Beaumont Nightingale runners-up are:
- Susan Grant, RN, of Birmingham, executive vice president and chief nursing officer for Beaumont Health, in the Executive Administration category.
- Bernadine Sherwood, RN, of Grosse Pointe Park, nurse navigator, Breast Care Center/Multidisciplinary Clinics, Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe in the Specialty Nursing category.
- Patricia Bechtel Cady, RN, of Lake Orion, nurse clinician, Surgical Services Education, Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, in the Education category.
The Oakland University Nightingale Awards for Nursing Excellence are the only statewide awards for nursing in Michigan and have run consecutively since 1989.
For the past 28 years, Nightingale celebrations have provided the Oakland University School of Nursing with student scholarships, research support for faculty, leading-edge technology and resources to ensure access to advanced nursing education.
“The Nightingale Awards dinner has become an evening I look forward to throughout the year,” said Susan Grant, executive vice president and chief nursing officer for Beaumont Health. “It provides a wonderful opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to the amazing nurses who serve our community everyday through practice, education and research.
“Health care is becoming more complex with rapidly changing patient populations and needs. It takes outstanding nurses with expert knowledge and skill to meet those needs. At the same time, the qualities we’ve always valued - compassion, respect, kindness - are just as necessary as ever,” Grant said.
John Fox, president and chief executive officer for Beaumont Health, the presenting sponsor of the 2017 Nightingale Awards for Nursing Excellence, welcomed guests to the dinner.
The dinner attracted more than 500 nurses, physicians, administrators, family and friends. Forty-four Beaumont nurses were nominated for 2017 Nightingale awards.
Beaumont employs more than 10,000 nurses, nursing assistants and nurse technicians.
