Five Beaumont hospitals have been recently recognized as High Performing in Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy) by U.S. News & World Report, the highest rating the publication awards for maternity care. Beaumont hospitals in Farmington Hills, Grosse Pointe, Royal Oak, Troy and Wayne earned the prestigious recognition. This is the first time U.S. News has implemented a Best Hospitals for Maternity recognition program.
To be recognized as among the Best Hospitals for Maternity, hospitals had to excel on multiple quality metrics that matter to expectant families, including complication rates, cesarean sections, whether some births were scheduled too early in pregnancy, and how successfully each hospital supported breastfeeding. Of approximately 2,700 U.S. hospitals that provide maternity services, 237, or less than 9%, earned this new national “High Performing” rating.
“We are very proud to have five of our hospitals recognized for the outstanding, compassionate and extraordinary maternity care they provide every day. Welcoming children into the world is one of the most wonderful moments that happens in our hospitals and we know we are fortunate to have such amazing maternity care teams,” Beaumont Health CEO John Fox said.
The U.S. News evaluation reviewed hospital data relating to only uncomplicated pregnancies, not high-risk pregnancies. Participating hospitals responded to a survey from the U.S. News health analysis team in spring of 2021 which reflected data from 2019. Participation was voluntary. U.S. News anticipates updating Best Hospitals for Maternity in summer of 2022, to coincide with the release of the 2022-23 Best Hospitals for Procedures and Conditions ratings.
This new recognition is in addition to what was announced in July, when Beaumont's Royal Oak, Troy and Grosse Pointe hospitals again earned national recognition by U.S. News & World Report in the “America’s Best Hospitals” rankings. Beaumont has the most nationally ranked hospitals in Michigan.
Beaumont, Royal Oak ranked No. 2 statewide. The hospital also ranks No. 2 in Metro Detroit. Beaumont, Troy and Beaumont, Grosse Pointe are both ranked No. 3 in Michigan and Metro Detroit. Beaumont, Dearborn is ranked No. 10 in Michigan and No. 7 in Metro Detroit.
All eight Beaumont hospitals also received "high performing" national ratings for common adult procedures and conditions.
