Four Beaumont Health hospitals rank in the top 10 in Metro Detroit
Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak earned national recognition by U.S. News & World Report in nine medical specialties in “America’s Best Hospitals” rankings released today. The Royal Oak hospital ranked No. 2 in Michigan and No. 2 in Metro Detroit. This marks the 22nd consecutive year Beaumont, Royal Oak has been included in this national listing by U.S News.
Just 3 percent of the nearly 5,000 hospitals analyzed for Best Hospitals 2016-17 earned a national ranking in even one specialty. In 12 specialties, the top 50 hospitals are ranked based on objective measures. Four additional specialties are based on a reputational survey, with fewer hospitals ranking on reputation.
Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak is nationally ranked in the following nine medical specialties based on objective measures for 2016-17:
- Cardiology & Heart Surgery - #25
- Diabetes & Endocrinology - #10
- Gastroenterology & GI Surgery - #18
- Geriatrics - #26
- Nephrology (Kidney) - #31
- Neurology & Neurosurgery - #28
- Orthopedics - #22
- Pulmonology - #22
- Urology - #22
Beaumont, Royal Oak is top-ranked in Michigan for Diabetes & Endocrinology; Gastroenterology & GI Surgery; Geriatrics; and Orthopedics. It is the only Michigan hospital to achieve a national ranking in Orthopedics.
In addition, Beaumont, Royal Oak received a “high-performing” regional ranking in Gynecology.
Beaumont Hospital, Troy earned “high-performing” regional rankings in six medical specialties: Gastroenterology & GI Surgery; Geriatrics; Neurology & Neurosurgery; Orthopedics; Pulmonology; and Urology. It is ranked No. 6 in Michigan and No. 4 in Metro Detroit.
Beaumont Hospital, Dearborn, earned a “high performing” regional ranking in Nephrology and is one of three hospitals ranked No. 12 in Michigan and one of two hospitals ranked No. 7 in Metro Detroit.
Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe earned “high-performing” regional rankings in three medical specialties: Geriatrics; Orthopedics and Pulmonology. It is one of four hospitals ranked No. 15 in Michigan and one of four hospitals ranked No. 9 in Metro Detroit.

The U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings, now in their 27th year, help guide patients to hospitals that deliver care across 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. The Best Hospitals methodologies include objective measures such as patient survival, the number of times a given procedure is performed, infection rates, adequacy of nursing staff and more.
