The Beaumont Accountable Care Organization is the top-performing ACO in Michigan and the seventh best in the country, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The ACO generated $22.5 million in gross savings and resulted in a $9.8 million net share based on an 88.9 percent quality score for contract year 2017.
The Beaumont ACO is a voluntary partnership among physicians and Beaumont hospitals, providing them the opportunity to share in cost savings resulting from their efforts to improve patient care and outcomes.
This is the fifth consecutive year the Beaumont ACO achieved significant cost savings, dating back to its origin as the Oakwood ACO. ACOs must meet financial and quality targets set by Medicare to achieve shared savings.
“We’ve accomplished this by partnering with physicians to improve efficiency, reduce costs and improve care,” Beaumont Health Vice President, Managed Care & Accountable Care Services Ryan Catignani said. “Our goal is to provide the right care in the right setting for our patients, reduce costs and improve outcomes.”
For contract year 2018, the Beaumont ACO team is looking for opportunities for continued improvement such as:
- Diabetic Care, including eye exams
- Medication Reconciliation, post discharge
- Colorectal & Breast Cancer Screening
Walter Lorang, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, Beaumont ACO, said, “Our team-based focus on population health and collaboration has improved coordinated care among primary care physicians, specialists and hospitals.”
