Are you a caregiver for an aging parent or other family member? Would being better prepared to navigate the challenges of aging make your days easier and more joy-filled?
Join Beaumont Health experts Saturday, April 13, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, for Resources for Successful Aging, a free, educational event.
The event will connect individuals and family members with opportunities for healthy aging.
One of the star attractions of the event is the Virtual Dementia Tour, an evidenced-based simulation that allows participants to experience the challenges of life with dementia firsthand.
“It’s been my goal to pool all the aging resources Beaumont has to offer for some time now,” said geriatric medicine specialist and retired Chairman of Medicine, Michael E. Maddens, M.D., “I’m proud and grateful it’s coming together as a convenient, one-stop-shopping experience. We are optimistic participants will feel more confident and less isolated after they attend. 'Beaumont is here for you' is the main message.”
Dr. Maddens leads the presentation line-up with, “Memory changes with aging: What is normal?” Additional presentations include: “Financial safety and health for older adults,” with Peter Lichentberg, Ph.D., Institute of Gerontology, Wayne State University; and “Your Healthy Brain,” with Michelle Davila, N.D., Beaumont Health Integrative Medicine Department.
Educational topics include:
- advance care planning
- how physical and occupational therapy can help maintain mobility and independence
- resources to support individuals experiencing dementia and memory loss
- high-risk medications
- ·options for home care and senior living.
The event is sponsored by the William and Audrey Farber Family Community Outreach Program for older adults.
