Dilip Samarapungavan, M.D.
Medical Director, Multi-Organ Transplantation
Dr. Samarapungavan (“Samar”) is the medical director of multi-organ transplantation at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital. He has also served as our primary kidney transplant physician since 2002.
Before coming to Beaumont, Dr. Samar was the medical director of nephrology inpatient services at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Michigan. He has brought an expansive depth of knowledge and experience in the field of immunosuppression in transplantation to our program. He has also practiced medicine extensively in the United Kingdom and India.
Dr. Samar received his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Madras in India. He underwent extensive training in transplant, renal, pulmonary and gastrointestinal medicine in the United Kingdom, and was awarded the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in the United Kingdom. He also completed a fellowship in nephrology and hypertension at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit.
His clinical interests include: combined liver-kidney transplantation; treatment of kidney disease in liver failure and liver transplant; and kidney and pancreas transplantation. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine-Nephrology and the American Board of Internal Medicine.

M. Rasm Al Sibae, M.D.
Director, Transplant Hepatology
Dr. Al Sibae, Hepatology, Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital completed his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Damascus in Syria. His residency was done in Internal Medicine at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital/Wayne State University and he completed fellowships in Transplant Hepatology at the University of Alabama, Birmingham and Clinical Hepatology at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. Dr. Al Sibae was also an academic hospitalist for Henry Ford Health System, responsible for teaching general internal medicine.

- Steven Cohn, M.D.
Steven Cohn M.D. is a transplant surgeon who has been on staff at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital for 16 years. Dr. Cohn earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed a fellowship in transplantation surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery. Says Dr. Cohn, "My mission is to provide exceptional and individualized care for the patient with kidney, liver and pancreatic disease needing surgery or transplant." He has specific expertise in minimally invasive liver and kidney surgery.

Hepatologists
Transplant Nurse Coordinator provides continuity of care while you are being evaluated for your transplant. The transplant nurse coordinator will work closely with you to make sure tests are scheduled and completed, results are being sent to the transplant office for review and your questions are being answered.
Transplant Social Worker makes sure you have the necessary resources to help in your adjustment to a transplant, including adequate social and emotional support. The social worker finds healthy ways to manage any concerns you may have with the transplant process, including during your wait for an organ and after your receive your transplant.
Financial Representative discusses your financial situation and counsels you about resources to help you pay for your transplant, follow-up and care, and your medicines. You can also call the financial representative with questions.
