There’s no meeting too important for me to step away and speak to a staff member, patient or relative who has a concern.

Trenton Chief Nursing Officer opens door for improved communication

Nearly one year after joining Corewell Health Trenton Hospital as chief nursing officer, Gilly Anderson, RN, recently celebrated with her team as they earned Magnet designation through the American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Recognition Program. Corewell Health Trenton Hospital is one six Beaumont hospitals to earn the prestigious designation, which recognizes health care organizations for quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice.

“Attaining Magnet designation is such an honor and a testament to the tireless work the Corewell Health Trenton Hospital team does daily to bring nursing excellence to our community,” said Gilly.

She began her nursing career in Great Britain where she worked in a Level l Emergency Department. She also worked in medical/surgical units, a group home psychiatric setting, a primary care office and a nursing home.

From there, Gilly worked at several Michigan health systems before finding a home at Beaumont.

“I’d always admired Beaumont’s reputation and community involvement,” explains Gilly. “I was looking for an opportunity to do the things I’m most passionate about - improving patient care and mentoring new leaders.”

While the team at Beaumont, Trenton is incredibly excited by their Magnet designation, Gilly says this is one instrumental step in the journey to nursing excellence. They’d like to make Corewell Health Trenton Hospital the first choice of the community when they need health care by providing excellent patient experiences and the highest quality care.

From the moment she began at Beaumont, Gilly has kept an open-door policy. “Anyone can call me at any time,” she says.

Whether its face-to-face, email, text or call, that open communication and the hard work of Trenton’s nursing team led to their Magnet achievement.

“It’s important to me that staff know who I am and how to get ahold of me,” explains Gilly. “There’s no meeting too important for me to step away and speak to a staff member, patient or relative who has a concern.”
